Design-build firm EHS Design's renovation of the iQ Credit Unionheadquarters in downtown Vancouver, Wash., has received the 2009Community Pride Design Award.

The Clark County award program recognizes exceptional buildings,development and civic improvements that have had a positive impacton the community through commercial, industrial, residentialdevelopment, public facilities and restoration efforts.

EHS Design provided strategic planning, interior design andarchitectural services for the renovation of the 1960s four-story,concrete-frame building, which anchors a district of unique earlymodern buildings. Formerly the City of Vancouver Citizens ServiceCenter on Main Street, the credit union's new branch is on theground floor with business lending and executive administrationoccupying the upper stories.

The project involved demolishing an adjacent single-story branchbuilding, additional selective demolition of the multistorybuilding, converting the existing parking level under the buildinginto the new branch, providing seismic upgrades and constructingnew building skin, glazing, and mechanical, electrical and fireprotection systems. Interior design services included selection offinishes and furnishings throughout. The new lobby addition ismarked by a curved red canopy, creating a dramatic two-story heightentry. Site improvements involved a landscaped pedestrian plaza,full ADA access, walk-up and drive-up ATMs and parking.
