A white paper on server virtualization, the practice of splitting one computer server into multiple functioning machines, is the latest offering from the CUNA Technology Council.
CUNA's 2008-2009 Technology and Spending Report said nearly 70% of the credit unions of $200 million or more that it surveyed said they were planning to use virtual server technology within the next three years.
The white paper looks at the benefits of virtualization, citing examples such as $171 million Heritage CU in Madison, Wis., going from 16 server boxes to two host machines and $3.5 billion Mid-Atlantic Corporate FCU in Middletown, Pa., going from 100 to eight.
CUNA offers more than 200 white papers free to council members and at $50 each to non-members. They are available at www.cunacouncils.org.
