The Wisconsin Credit Union League does not run a stand-alone Credit Union House like CUNA's, but for purposes of International Credit Union Day next week the league's Madison offices will make do for media and government leaders as part of what is billed as a "bigger and better" event.
In a departure, the league is also holding this special ICU celebration for lawmakers, civic leaders and reporters on Oct. 14, one day earlier than the designated Oct. 15 as decreed by the World Council of Credit Unions, which has staffers in Madison and will be at an afternoon reception.
Also on hand in "Credit Union House" will be executives from CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group invited to "share how despite troubled times credit unions are REAL lifesavers for people in Wisconsin, the U.S. and abroad." The cap REAL refers to the National Credit Union Foundation's REAL Solutions program on CU-driven financial products including payday alternatives.

"We decided that in light of the 100th anniversary celebration and because of our location in the heart of the system, we would make sure more of our partners and the media from across the state got to see us on ICU Day," said a league spokesman.
On a smaller scale but more typical of ICU festivities this month, Idaho Gov. C. L. Otter held court a contingent of Idaho Credit Union League executives Monday as he signed a proclamation for "International Credit Union Day in Idaho" on Oct. 15 complete with a press photo op.
