Credit unions in the Northwest have a new payroll vendor: the Idaho Credit Union League which this fall has been promoting its services to CUs across four states.

League officials said they found the cost-cutting trend among small and medium CUs paramount, triggering a decision to expand offerings of its subsidiary, League Services, Inc. into Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho.

Eight northwest CUs have now contracted with LSI this year, which has been stressing quick turnarounds plus "our special knowledge and understanding of the industry." LSI has been processing payroll for some 22 Idaho CUs for more than six years.

Testimonials show, said Beverly Smith, accounting manager of LSI, that several CUs have been able to reduce or eliminate full time staff under the expanded program. LSI staffers can assist clients via telephone, e-mail, online portal or secure fax "and let me add this is not any kind of cookie-cutter system," said Smith.
