With disaster planning now a high priority for financial institutions, the Arizona Credit Union League is helping coordinate a special Pandemic Seminar today in Phoenix under auspices of a co-op umbrella organization known as Arizona First.

Among attendees at the session being held at a Bank of America branch are staffers from a host of agencies and organizations including NCUA, FDIC the Arizona Bankers Association and state and county health leaders.

At the top of the disaster list now are preparations for a flu outbreak, said Pat Bodnar, senior vice president, noting also the league and the other participating groups are mindful of the Katrina hurricane experience.

"The aim for this all day meeting is to share best practices," said Bodnar. Arizona First started planning practices two years ago, she said, and is similar "but perhaps further along" than co-op groups in other cities that also have adopted the Arizona First nomenclature using Web sites and other vehicles to communicate employee training.
