Piggybacking on a successful direct deposit campaign last spring that brought 1,200 entries, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union is launching an online bill promotion this month offering $100 gift cards under a special linkup with a local grocery chain.
The partnering venture with Tri-Town Foods is aimed at enhancing the Charter Oak brand by building "primary relationships with members that includes direct deposit, online bill payment and checking," said Laurie B. Cormier, assistant vice president-marketing.
The five-week online blitz using print and radio ads provides that users paying four bills a month receive the $100 gift card for use in any of the Tri-Town Foods four outlets including one that is near a Charter Oak branch. As part of the promotion, one user is eligible to win a Tri-Town shopping spree scheduled in February.

The direct deposit segment, which began in March and highlighted the Charter Oak logo theme, "Relationships Beyond Banking" also included an incentive for making frequent deposits. Each of the 1,246 deposit entries was for $750 a month or more, said Cormier.
