The industry's support-the-troops fundraising campaigns reach new levels next week in North Carolina with a two-day, 170-mile, CU-backed bike ride across the state.

Spearheaded by the North Carolina Credit Union League and Marine FCU of Jacksonville, N.C., the beneficiaries-to a projected goal of $100,000-is a three-year-old military support group known as Hope for the Warriors helping Iraq and Afghanistan vets who lost limbs.

"Yes, indeed I've become a huge fan of this organization since I've witnessed firsthand and talked with some of these scarred Iraq and Afghanistan vets as they try to recover when they return home," explained Craig Chamberlin, president/CEO of the $630 million Marine FCU, which serves Camp Lejeune.
