The national search for a new president/CEO of the South Carolina Credit Union League is progressing satisfactorily this summer, but any immediate move toward consolidating with other state leagues is not in the cards, according to the league chairman, Scott Woods.

Woods' comments on the CEO search and the national pursuit eyeing trade group economies come as the league is hiring O'Rourke, Mitchell & Associates, a San Francisco search firm to help hire a successor to Garry Parks, the league CEO who is leaving at year-end.

"It was only natural for our board to look at the viability of consolidation with other leagues, which we did during our annual planning session which closely followed Garry's retirement announcement," said Woods. But, he went on, "we feel our state league still brings value to its member credit unions in its current form."

So far, the South Carolina, said Woods, who also is president/CEO of South Carolina FCU of North Charleston has not been formally contacted about joining the fledgling League of Southeastern Credit Unions, made up of Florida and Alabama leagues, or of lining up with the Virginia or North Carolina Leagues, all of whom share conference and workshop programming.

For years, the North and South Carolina Leagues have operated the joint Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, which funds charity endeavors in the two states and includes the PBS BizKids show and the Victory Junction Gang camp.
