First, it was General Motors and Chrysler followed by Sprint and RV maker Thor and now the Invest in America discount program run by CUcorp of the Michigan Credit Union League is taking on moving services under a new partnering deal with Allied Van Lines Inc.

So far, several hundred CUs nationwide are promoting the Allied hookup allowing their members as much as a 60% discount on interstate moves "and significant savings" on local moves and storage services. The Allied deal, however, apparently is limited to one of its largest agencies, Carey Moving & Storage, which concentrates on East Coast operations.

Meanwhile, CUcorp said it is "in sensitive discussion" with other "Fortune 500″ companies, which it did not name, to arrange similar discount programs under the branding setup patterned after its linkup with GM and Chrysler and to a limited degree with Ford Motor.

Apart from the price discounts on products, CUcorp said the Invest brand is designed to demonstrate the industry's support of U.S. based companies "to keep local economies and jobs strong."

On the Allied hookup, CUcorp said its partnership gives CU members price advantages on peak season restrictions, enhanced transit times, expedited claims settlements and protection valuations if furniture is broken based on tariff rules.

Overall, CUCorp said it has more than 2,000 CUs actively participating with automakers and 400 with Sprint. Statistics on the Thor program, which started Sept. 1 were not immediately available.
