The League of Southeastern Credit Unions has a new treasurer, Tina Williams, of Mobile, Ala., replacing Dale Dalbey, forced out last month from the LSCU board after his Birmingham CU, Mutual Savings, fell into NCUA conservatorship.
Dalbey, a member of LSCU's executive committee and a former chairman of the Alabama Credit Union League, had to resign his trade and CU jobs while a legal suit challenging the state action on Mutual continues in a Columbiana, Ala. state court.
Dalbey, CEO of the $159 million Mutual, the CU chairman, Barbara R. Luckett and directors filed an injunction in the Shelby County court seeking to block the July 31 conservatorship brought by the state regulator, T. Glenn Latham.
A first hearing on the Mutual injunction scheduled Aug. 24 was postponed last week on procedural grounds, officials said. Meanwhile, the new president/CEO of LSCU, Patrick La Pine, told Credit Union Times that despite Dalbey's legal troubles he remains a supporter of Dalbey and has "long sought his counsel." Dalbey previously was a top lobbyist for the Alabama League before joining the Birmingham CU.
La Pine said the LSCU board has agreed to hold an election this fall to replace Dalbey on the 16-member board, half of which represents seats held by Alabama CUs and the remaining from Florida. The newly elected treasurer, Tina Williams, is president/CEO of The Infirmary CU of Mobile.
