CUNA and NAFCU are now working together to come up with a joint response to NCUA's next move regarding corporate structure.
Speaking on behalf of the National Credit Union Roundtable, Rod Staatz, State Employees CU of Maryland president/CEO, said the NCUA "is more poised than ever" to listen to industry concerns about overhauling the corporate structure.
Staatz said the roundtable is "pleased that CUNA and NAFCU are working together" to deliver its analysis, perhaps within days, "though I cannot say when that will be ready."

Earlier this week, CUNA Chairman Kris Mecham, president/CEO of Deseret First FCU of Salt Lake City, also mentioned in a "Ucupod" interview aired by the Utah League of Credit Unions that CUNA and NAFCU leaders joined together recently to craft a response to NCUA.
Mecham also said last January's deluge of 30,000 e-mails and phone calls to the NCUA grabbed the attention of the agency and helped turn the tide in the NCUA shifting its corporate stance. He added that the NCUA's new chairman, Deborah Matz, appears sympathetic to CU concerns, particularly since she has worked in a credit union and "understands the gravity" of the issues.
