NCUA Chairman Michael E. Fryzel, CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica and NAFCU President Fred Becker congratulated NCUA Chairman-Designate Deborah Matz, who was confirmed today by the Senate. In a statement issued after the confirmation, Matz said her priority at the agency was "reform and revitalization."
"I congratulate incoming Chairman Debbie Matz on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate and extend to her my support and best wishes during her NCUA tenure," Fryzel said.
"Current economic turmoil and challenges demand strong, practical, progressive leadership. I am certain Debbie Matz will meet the challenges with confidence, and stand ready to assist her in the transition."

In a statement issued by the NCUA, Matz said, "I am honored and grateful for President Obama's nomination and the Senate's confirmation."
"When I assume the chairmanship, I eagerly anticipate a focused and positive agenda for NCUA characterized by an ongoing priority on reform and revitalization," she added.
"The role that credit unions play in American life is a vital one, based on a well-deserved reputation for safety, soundness and service. I look forward to working with the NCUA Board, staff and the thousands of credit union volunteers and professionals to make certain that role is not only preserved, but enhanced, as we move forward together."
Mica said CUNA looks forward to working with Matz "in ensuring the continued safety and soundness of credit unions, as well as fostering a regulatory environment in which credit unions may continue to grow, prosper and effectively serve their members."
Fred Becker said, "We congratulate Debbie Matz on the confirmation and look forward to working with her as she assumes the helm of the NCUA."
