Hanscom FCU showed its ongoing commitment to supporting U.S. service members by sponsoring a Heroes Homecoming at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

Planned by base personnel from Service and Public Affairs, the celebration honored 50 Airmen returning from overseas deployment and their families and recognized the efforts of USO New England, three groups that send care packages to troops and volunteer Bill Haas of Concord, Mass., an active participant in multiple programs on Hanscom AFB.

In 2009, 175 personnel from Hanscom AFB, including seven civilians, have been deployed to five different continents.

The June event was the fifth Heroes Homecoming bolstered by a $3,000 Hanscom FCU contribution since the program's inception in 2007. It was attended by about 2,500 people, including special guests Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Tim Murray and former professional athletes Dana Barros of the Boston Celtics and John Smith of the New
England Patriots.

"Every Hanscom Heroes Homecoming is uniquely important because every one celebrates a new and different set of service members and their loved ones," Hanscom Chairman Paul Marotta said. "That means, as a sponsor, it is incumbent on us to help make each one memorable, and it is a job we very much enjoy doing."
