HomeCU said it has signed up 60 credit unions as users of its mobile text banking solution since it began offering the service in the spring of 2008.

"What makes our product different than other mobile banking solutions is that young members actually use it," said Jan Brinkerhoff, vice president of HomeCU's owner, Database Management Services Inc. in Boise, Idaho.

"Our service is simple SMS text messaging and does not require a Web browser or phone applet download like many large institutions offer. The reality is that young people prefer texting over e-mail and Web solutions," Brinkerhoff said.

HomeCU said it now provides online banking services to more than 350 credit unions.
