Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Rapid City, S.D., announced the recipients of its 2009 ViBZ! scholarships. The recipients are members of the credit union's ViBZ! teen program, which is designed to promote financial literacy among young adults. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the college of his or her choice. The ViBZ! scholarship committee congratulated the following 2009 recipients: Kendra Dietrich, New Underwood High School; Damien J. Schuster, Sturgis Brown High School; and Annelise Ewing, Spearfish High School.

Credit Union Association of New York, Albany, N.Y., will award scholarships to 21 college-bound students through its 2009 annual scholarship program. This year the association will award a total of $13,500: six $1,000 scholarships and 15 $500 awards. Scholarship applicants competed against other credit union members across the state. Judging was based on academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, and an essay question. The winners came from eight of the association's 14 chapters.

San Antonio Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, announced the kickoff of its Bridge for U scholarship program designed for members who have completed two years of community college and have been accepted at a four-year college or university. During the 2009-2010 academic year, SACU plans to award up to 14 scholarships to qualified full-time students who are also members in good standing at SACU for a minimum of one year. Each scholarship will be for a total of $3,000.

Vantage Credit Union, St. Louis, awarded 25 high school seniors a combined $37,500 in scholarships. Each 2009 Quest For Education scholarship winner was chosen based on an essay; appropriate honors and awards; participation in extracurricular, community and volunteer activities; employment; recommendation letters; and credit union membership. Volunteer scholarship judges consisted of local educators, Vantage board and supervisory committee members and employees. Students from 18 public school districts and three private schools in both Missouri and Illinois applied for and won scholarships.

Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, has named 15 scholarship award recipients from Texas and Colorado, each of whom will receive a check for $1,000. Security Service has awarded more than $144,000 to nearly 200 students over the last 19 years. Students are chosen based on outstanding academic achievement, character and community involvement.

First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit Union, Lutherville, Md., has awarded nine $5,000 scholarships to honor the outstanding achievements of high school seniors within its field of membership. The scholarships were awarded in recognition of academic excellence and commitment to school and community. Funding for the scholarships is made possible through the KidsFirst fund, First Financial's Visa credit card donation program. Since the KidsFirst fund's inception, First Financial FCU has donated over $1 million, $350,000 of which has been used for scholarship awards.

Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., awarded Most Excellent Senior Team scholarships to five high school students. Each will receive a four-year scholarship of $4,000. Each year, Robins Federal selects five graduating seniors who are also members of the credit union based on scholastic performance, extracurricular and community activities, letters of recommendation and an essay. Through the scholarship program, now in its 13th year, Robins Federal has awarded over $170,000 to qualified students.

Xceed Financial Credit Union, El Segundo, Calif., awarded $10,000 in college scholarships to 10 high school seniors. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the late Romeo Doty, Xceed's longest-tenured board member, who believed in making higher education accessible to all students. Entrants were evaluated on their academic records, contributions and extracurricular activities in their schools and communities. Each student also wrote an essay about the importance of educating teens and college students about financial literacy.

Workers' Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., awarded college scholarships to Acton-Boxborough Regional High School's Stephen Upham and Chelmsford High School's Lindsey Howe. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded based on academic performance and community service. The credit union has branch offices in both high schools. Upham, whose community service included a Hurricane Katrina relief mission trip, will attend Indiana University. Howe is pursuing a career in elementary education at Westfield State.

1st Advantage Federal Credit Union, Yorktown, Va., has been recognizing the academic achievements and financial needs of outstanding young citizens for 30 years. The 1st Advantage FCU Directors scholarship fund presented its 2009 scholarships to four Greater Peninsula high school seniors. Shelly Milks from Gloucester High School, Kelly Shafer from Bruton High School, Mitchell Delusa from Gloucester High School and Jarrell Gary from Woodside High School each received a scholarship of $2,000.

Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union, Memphis, Tenn., has awarded Future Educators scholarships to four students. Each recipient will receive a $2,500 annual, renewable scholarship. Winners can receive up to $10,000 over four years as long as guidelines continue to be met. Each student has been recognized for his or her academic achievements and civic volunteer efforts. All recipients have a desire to work with children and teach in a classroom.
