American Airlines Federal Credit Union, Fort Worth, Texas, is mourning the death of former La Guardia Branch Manager George Portalatin.
A dedicated credit union advocate, Portalatin had recently taken time off from work for a few months to deal with health issues.
"George was a kind-hearted, gentle soul who will be greatly missed by his many friends here at the credit union," said co-worker Kumar Muthukumar. "As we face this difficult situation, we are left with the memories of our time with George and the positive impact he had on his co-workers, our credit union and the countless member's lives he touched."

Vuono, Omega FCU CEO, Passes Away at 63
Omega Federal Credit Union, Pittsburgh, is mourning the sudden loss of its longtime CEO Robert J. Vuono, who died at the age of 63.
Vuono joined the credit union, then known as Bell International FCU, in 1988 and helped the credit union grow to $75 million in assets serving over 17,000 members. He is also credited with the creation of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Service Centers.
"Rob was a great man and will certainly be missed by staff and members alike for his charm and quick wit," said OMEGA FCU Manager of Marketing/Membership Erika Schuster. "He dedicated many years to serving our membership and creating the successful OMEGA FCU we have today."
Vuono, who had planned to retire in February 2010, is survived by his wife, Coleen, daughter, Erin, and grandchildren, Cecelia and Dominic.
With Vuono's death, the CU's board, which had already begun the search for a new CEO, will
be working with the management team to maintain credit union operations until a successor is
appointed.
