Symitar will depend on the Virtual Events 365 platfom from Computer Generated Solutions Inc. for the framework for its Aug. 26-27 Educational Conference & Technology Expo.

Symitar had said earlier this year it would hold a virtual conference so representatives of its more than 600 credit union clients wouldn't have to miss it because of budget restrictions.

Symitar President Kathy Hooker Burress said she anticipated more participants than ever.

"By offering a virtual conference to our clients, we're saving them both time and money, while delivering the same great educational opportunity that we have for the past 25 years," she said.

New York-based CGS's VirtualEvents 365 provides a Web-based environment that enables organizations to plan, promote, deliver, track and monetize a variety of events virtually, including user meetings, conferences, job fairs, product launches and training programs, the company said.

John San Filippo, Symitar marketing manager, said, "We knew going into this that the key to success was finding the right virtual event platform."

Educational sessions, social networking opportunities and an exhibit hall for vendors will all be part of the 2009 cyber expo.

PSECU Deploys Antifraud Protection

Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (www.psecu.com) is now offering its 353,000 members a free download it says provides an extra layer of protection to online bankers.

Trusteer Rapport is a browser plug-in that protects against unauthorized access and theft caused by phishing attacks and malware while at the same time reporting intrusion attempts to fraud experts, according to Israel-based Trusteer.

The Rapport solution "silently protects personal information entered by users in their Web browser, including user names, passwords and account numbers, from malicious software that may be hiding on the machine and redirection to look-alike Web sites," the company said.

Trusteer (www.trusteer.com) was founded by industry veterans from such firms as PassMark and Cyota.

"The Rapport product is very easy to install, even for novice computer users, and has virtually no impact on system performance or user experience with our Web site," said Eric Leighow, director of IT enterprise operations at the $3.4 billion PSECU in Harrisburg.

"Most important, it prevents personal information from being stolen, in a way that complements existing security and antivirus software present on the machine."

Akcelerant Lands PSCU Contract

PSCU Financial Services has contracted with Akcelerant to use its software to expand collections services into a variety of product lines, the company and CUSO said.

Florida-based PSCU said it already places about 450,000 outbound calls a month servicing delinquent credit card accounts. The Akcelerant Framework software will help it expand its collection portfolio later this year.

"This software will upgrade our capabilities so that we are able to offer collections for a variety of different financial products, which is an important service for our member credit unions. It will also allow us to import data from multiple sources and will facilitate and expedite the collections workflow, including analysis and reporting," said David Serlo, president of PSCU Financial Services, which serves about 1,300 financial institutions nationwide.

More than 400 credit unions and banks currently use the software and services of Akcelerant, the suburban Philadelphia company said.
