The Securities and Exchange Commission has created a new advisory committee to give a voice to investors on how the agency should carry out its policies.

The investor advisory committee will advise the SEC on matters of concern to investors in the securities markets, provide the agency with their perspectives on current, nonenforcement regulatory issues and serve as a source of information and recommendations on regulatory programs. Committee members will also share their views on new products, trading strategies, fee structures and the effectiveness of disclosure.

Among the members of the 15-member committee are Barbara Roper, director of investor protection at the Consumer Federation of America; Richard Hisey, president of AARP Financial Inc. and AARP Funds; and Hye-Won Choi, senior vice president and head of corporate governance at TIAA-CREF, will co-chair the committee. SEC Commissioner Luis Aguilar will serve as the primary sponsor.

The SEC said the advisory committee will begin its work in the next few weeks.
