A new application from software developer Intuit offers the promise of expanding the market for consumers to use their cards in more places.
Intuit, the developer of the popular accounting program QuickBooks, calls the program GoPayment. GoPayment will allow small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs to accept cards as payment on the spot as long as they have a connection through a mobile phone. The card swipe device has a small printer for printing receipts and can be worn on a belt or set on a table. Receipts for the transactions can also be sent to a consumer's e-mail.
GoPayment carries a $59.95 one time set-up fee, a $19.95 per month monthly service charge, has no long contract, application fee or cancelation fee. Transactions carry a $0.23 per transaction charge along with discount rate of 1.64% for Visa, MasterCard and Discover charges where the card is used and 2.44% for transactions where card numbers are keyed in.
