Community Resource Federal Credit Union, Troy, N.Y., employees for the fifth consecutive year bowled in the Capital District Community Gardens' Garden fundraiser. This year's event was held at Uncle Sam's Lanes. Employees contributed $1,118 of the total $8,007 that was raised to support Community Gardens.

Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., made a $5,000 corporate donation to the American Cancer Society for the 2009 Houston Country Relay For Life. Money raised for Relay For Life will allow the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research, create education programs in communities, and assist in the grassroots efforts in shaping public policy regarding cancer-related matters in the community, state and national levels of government.

Credit Union of Southern California, Whittier, Calif., held its first community shred-a-thon. The event was held at the Brea and Whitter branches in an effort to help consumers defend against identity theft. The event was followed four days later by a free identity theft workshop held at the Whitter branch. The two events worked in tandem to help educate consumers about how to detect, deter and defend against identity theft.

Patent and Trademark Office Federal Credit Union, Alexandria, Va., participated in the Meals on Wheels program that servers the Alexandria community. Three teams delivered nutritious meals three times a month to physically challenged or homebound senior citizens. Meals on Wheels volunteers are the only human contact some recipients have all day.

Warren Federal Credit Union, Cheyenne, Wyo., partnered with the Laramie County Library system to host a free financial wellness fair at the Laramie County Library. Spearheading the effort was the credit union's marketing and business development department. The event was designed to help people facing financial challenges and tough everyday financial decisions in a troubled economy.

Mocse Credit Union, Modesto, Calif., in a partnership with the Kiwanis, sponsored the distribution of 365 bicycle helmets to K-6th grade students at Enslen Elementary School. Mocse's mascot, Sammy, was on hand, as well as an Amgen Tour of California representative, educating students on the importance of wearing bicycle helmets.

Electro Savings Credit Union, St. Louis, recently gave residents of two St. Louis County apartment communities the opportunity to discuss their real-life financial issues with representatives from the credit union. The credit union is focusing on its community outreach efforts in apartment communities within a two-to three-mile radius of each of its four branches, offering seminars on budgeting and understanding credit, to residents.

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, Greenbelt, Md., partnering with local minor league baseball team, Bowie Baysox, recently announced this year's "Read and Hit a Home Run" poster design contest winner. Matthew Reider from Leonardtown Middle School and Chane Suxton from Robert R. Gray Elementary School were announced as the winners of the contest. The credit union, as well as the Bowie Baysox, awarded the students with team paraphernalia, prize packs, game tickets and a certificate of achievement.

DATCU Credit Union, Denton, Texas, participated in the "Go Red" campaign, raising $420 for the American Heart Association. For a $5 donation, employees were able to wear jeans and a red shirt and have their names entered into a drawing for Go Red prizes.

Keys Federal Credit Union, Key West, Fla., sponsored the 19th annual AIDS Help Inc. art auction. A $1,000 check was presented by key administrative officers of the credit union. The credit union supports the work of AIDS Help Inc. who invited anyone to participate at the auction for some terrific works of art and support this worthwhile cause.
