Western Corporate Federal Credit Union is preparing to launch a consumer economic podcast that features Dwight Johnston, vice president of economic and market research."I had several members over the last year approach me with the suggestion of offering Dwight directly to consumers," said Walter Laskos, WesCorp public relations director. Laskos said the new podcast, "Insights by Dwight," will be available to member credit unions to use as an informational and educational resource for members.WesCorp recently celebrated the 100th episode of weekly podcast "OnDeck with Dwight Johnston," an economic podcast for credit unions produced at the corporate's Overland Studios. In March 2008, the series was recognized with two Telly Awards for production excellence.Johnston said "Insights" will include much of the same information presented in his OnDeck show, but will be "pared down and simplified into what it all means for consumers.""You see headlines in The LA Times and other places that can be misleading as far as how economic indicators affect consumers," Johnston said. The consumer podcast will be shorter than the one geared toward credit unions, he said, only five to six minutes long, but will explain the week's economic headlines in layman's terms, including how consumers will be directly affected.Laskos said WesCorp is working out the final details but said credit unions will provide member access to the service by posting a provided graphic title icon and linking it to the podcast URL. Members would follow the link and use their own computer media player to access the podcast. The podcast will also be available on iTunes for general distribution to consumers.–[email protected]
