The NCUA today urged consumers not to fall for an advance fee loan scam being advertised by an organization falsely claiming to be a credit union.

The agency said that the entity promoting the scam is using the name Firststar Credit Union and advertising itself as a credit union. There is, however, no Firststar Credit Union chartered by the NCUA, or any state supervisory authority.

The NCUA urges victims of this, or any other scam, to contact its Fraud Hotline at 1-800-827-9650.
