Making good on a campaign promise, President Obama is expected today to ease money transfer and travel restrictions for Cuban Americans with their native country and allow greater satellite communications between the countries.

According to published reports, the administration is set to announce changes in policy that include unlimited money transfers and travel back to Cuba for Cuban Americans. The administration is also expanding the items allowed to be sent to Cuba to include personal hygiene items, seeds and fishing gear.

The government will also begin selling licenses to American companies to provide cell and television service to people in Cuba.

The trade embargo will remain in place, though exceptions will be allowed for computers, cell phones and satellite receivers.
