APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Wings Financial Federal Credit Union has become the official financial institution for Women in Aviation International, a 7,000-member group that encourages women to pursue pilot, astronaut and other aviation careers.
The $2 billion Wings Financial will offer services to WAI members and will be assisting the organization by providing support for the Women in Aviation Endowment Fund, funding scholarships for aviation students and support for WAI's annual conference and regional events.
"Because so many of us work in jobs that can take us from one side of the globe to the other in less than a day, we want a financial services partner who understands those unique demands and who provides services that make our lives easier," said Peggy Chabrian, president and founder of West Alexandria, Ohio-based WAI. "Wings Financial is exactly the kind of partner we have been looking for."
Established in 1994, WAI's membership includes astronauts, corporate pilots, maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers, business owners, educators, journalists, flight attendants, high school and university students, air show performers, airport managers and others. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, of the nearly 700,000 active pilots in the United States, less than 6% are women.
