WASHINGTON – Prompted by the objections raised by two of its Republican members, the Senate Finance Committee again delayed a confirmation hearing for Treasury-Secretary-designate Timothy Geithner.
His nomination has run into roadblocks after revelations that he failed to make certain tax payments in a timely fashion. As treasury secretary, he would be responsible for the Internal Revenue Service.
The hearing is now scheduled for next Wednesday.
Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and Jim Bunning (R-KY) had both objected to it being held on Friday because it conflicted with another confirmation hearing.
