HOUSTON — Shell Oil Products US is launching a card which will enable consumers to purchase gasoline from their stations directly from their checking accounts, bypassing the use and interchange of the debit card.

The company is rolling out the card with a promotion that will run from early January 2009 to June 1 and which will give cardholders a $0.05 discount on gasoline and diesel fuel purchases. After June 1 the discount will drop to $0.02.

Consumers will have to pick up one of the cards at the station and then enroll them online using a valid checking account, the company said.
