MADISON, Wis. — The "Credit Union House" is developing its own brand.

First, it was the showcase structure opened in 2001 by CUNA two blocks from the nation's capital to entertain lawmakers and serve as a meeting site, followed by one in Jefferson City, Mo. in 2004, another set for next July in Oklahoma City and now a fourth debuting here Jan. 5 from the Wisconsin Credit Union League.

"Given our strong CU advocacy network in Wisconsin and the growing need for a bigger presence in our state's capitol, opening a CU House was a very natural and necessary step," said a league spokesman.

The league is retaining its suburban Milwaukee headquarters in Pewaukee with staff located in both cities but the new "Credit Union House" located directly across the street from the State Capitol building "will serve as a command center for grassroots efforts and a place for credit union activists to explain what credit unions are about," continued the spokesman.

While Brett Thompson, league president/CEO will remain in Pewaukee, the "efforts specific to advocacy, government affairs and communication" will be in Credit Union House, said the league.

Gov. James Doyle Jr. along with key legislators and government dignitaries have been invited to the Jan. 5 ribbon cutting ceremony and open house, said the league in an e-mail sent to members this week.
