WASHINGTON — NCUA Chairman Michael E. Fryzel reiterated his pledge to take an active role in preventing problems before they occur during a speech before the suburban chapter of the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union League."We must continue a proactive approach to consumer protection during these troubling economic times. With vigilance and thorough supervision NCUA can continue to ensure safety and soundness to consumers who make credit unions their financial choice," Fryzel said in a Nov. 13 speech to the group. "In his, I need your help."He noted that while most credit unions are in good shape, he promised to work with Congress, the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department to ensure that his agency has the resources needed to help credit unions deal with the financial crisis.Fryzel urged attendees to help out economically distressed members and suggested that they reevaluate everything they do to improve all aspects of the services they provide to members.–[email protected]
