WASHINGTON – Those out of work because of the nation's economic woes will get 13 more weeks of unemployment insurance as a result of a measure signed today by President Bush.
About 1.2 million people stand to lose benefits between now and the end of the year, according to congressional Democrats, who pushed through the measure, which the Senate approved yesterday and the House had passed in September.
The measure makes those people eligible for an additional seven weeks of benefits.

The unemployment rate is currently 6.5% and on Thursday the Labor Department reported that initial claims for jobless benefits increased 27,000 to a seasonally adjusted 542,000 for the week that ended November 15.
