American Eagle Federal Credit Union, East Hartford, Conn., donated $2,000 to the Literacy Volunteers of America's central and northern Connecticut chapters. Also, seven employees participated in the fourth annual scrabble challenge hosted by the northern chapter. The credit union scrabble team was organized by Enfield Branch Manager Cheryl Ross. Last year, the central chapter served 470 students with the help of 207 volunteer tutors and the northern chapter served 65 students with help of 45 volunteer tutors.

Visions Federal Credit Union, Endicott, N.Y., employees participated in the 19th annual American Heart Association southern tier heart walk. The Visions team of 84 employees plus family members and volunteers collected $10,000 for the cause. In addition to the money raised, Visions was the team photo sponsor and provided free popcorn to all attendees.

MidSouth Federal Credit Union, Macon, Ga., presented a sponsorship check to members of Volunteer Macon. For the second consecutive year, MidSouth partnered with Volunteer Macon to bring a volunteer income tax assistance site to their Lasseter Place office. VITA offers free electronic tax filing to low- and moderate-income people who need help preparing their own tax returns.

America First Credit Union, Salt Lake City, donated $10,000 to the Utah Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. The program provides continuing education and training for teachers statewide. Along with the donation, America First gave over 800 hours of service dedicated to improving the financial education of children, teachers and adults. America First is the founding partner of the 100% For Kids Credit Union Education Foundation, which is helping to advance education with millions of dollars donated to Utah classrooms.

Public Service Credit Union, Romulus, Mich., hosted the second annual flower sale to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Romulus. Boys and Girls Club representatives were on hand to sell flowers from Gardner's Choice in Belleville, with all proceeds to benefit the Romulus Boys and Girls Club. Over $300 was raised.

Lacamas Community Credit Union, Camas, Wash., donated $2,500 to Share of Vancouver to benefit the Orchards Inn homeless shelter. The shelter provides housing and meals to families along with access to employment resources, health care, transportation and counseling. The shelter can accommodate 12 families and four single women for stays of up to 60 days.

Advance Financial Credit Union, Schereville, Ind., donated a large number of PCs, monitors and computer peripherals to the School City of East Chicago. Advance Financial Collections Supervisor Blanca Del Rio and Vice President of Operations Jerry Gomez coordinated with IT Director for the School City of East Chicago Tony Le and Technology Department Clerk Stephanie Pabey to deliver 55 PCs, 50 keyboards, 24 monitors, several typewriters, a fax machine, a copy machine and a box of computer mice. The School City said they will use parts of the machines to repair and update their equipment and then recycle the rest through a company called International Computer Recycling Inc.

OSU Federal Credit Union, Corvallis, Ore., donated 37 computer stations to several school districts and nonprofits throughout its five-county field of membership. School districts in Newport and Woodburn and nonprofits Community Outreach and HomeLife in Corvallis/Albany will benefit from the computers. HomeLife Executive Director Dave Zaback said the computers will replace outdated equipment and
make computers available to all staff for report writing and data collection at all seven locations.

Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., presented a check for $10,500 to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. The donation brings the total amount the credit union has raised for the institute over the past 21 years to more than $1.1 million dollars. Of the recent donation, $7,500 was generated through the credit union's affinity credit card program with the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Through the program, Credit Union ONE and the Karmanos Cancer institute share interchange income generated by cardholder transactions. The remaining funds were generated from a new membership initiative.
