BROCKTON, Mass. — Not only did a delegation of Kenya credit union leaders get to celebrate the achievement of their native son, President-elect Obama, but they also wound up spending time at HarborOne CU's long-touted Multi-Cultural Banking Center, a-year-old community facility targeted to help the low income.
The group of nine, here this week for a U.S. visit, slated to return to Kenya today, represented the Kenya Union of Savings & Credit Co-operatives and were brought here under auspices of the World Council of Credit Unions with a Boston area trip coordinated by the Massachusetts Credit Union League.
"They found the work done by HarborOne most interesting though when they got off the bus they also found the Boston weather a little unlike Kenya," said Dan Egan, president/CEO of the Massachusetts League.

The Kenyan group "was pretty excited about Obama's election," said Egan. They also spent a day meeting with HarborOne management and hearing talks from representatives of two Boston non-profits, Neighborhood Housing Services of the South Shore and South Shore Housing about being given free office space at the center to offer their services to local residents.
The Kenyan group, officials said, were impressed by the partnership between HarborOne and the local agencies, hoping to take back ideas to the African nation.
