WASHINGTON — HUD has tapped its General Deputy Counsel, Michael Flynn, to act as General Counsel.

"I am pleased that Mike will serve as HUD's Acting General Counsel. Mike's broad legal expertise and deep familiarity with HUD will ensure he remains a tremendous asset to the Department and the people we serve," said HUD Secretary Steve Preston.

Flynn will oversee approximately 370 attorneys and 320 staff at HUD as chief legal adviser. He will also maintain his position as counselor to the HOPE for Homeowners Board of Directors.

Before coming to HUD, Flynn worked at World Savings Bank in Oakland, Calif., as senior vice president and senior counsel in the company's mortgage lending business.

Flynn is also a member of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

Flynn takes over for Robert Couch, general counsel since June 2007.

HUD also announced that it has updated its online guidance for homeowners seeking to avoid foreclosure. The Guide to Avoiding Foreclosure is a one-stop-shop designed to educate Americans about the most current housing information and resources HUD has to offer.
