PENSACOLA, Fla. — John A. Davis, a 26-year veteran of the industry and the president/CEO of Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, has died. He was 52.
"We are very sad for such a great loss, not just for Pen Air, but for the entire credit union industry and our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Davis' family," said Ron Fields, executive vice president/chief financial officer who was named by the Pen Air board as interim CEO.
Davis, who passed Oct. 26, had been CEO of the $929 million Pen Air since June 1998.

Pen Air "attributes much of its growth and success to Davis' leadership and guidance," a press statement said. Pen Air won a number of awards under Davis' leadership, including a top safety rating from Bauer Financial, Inc., the Florida Credit Union League's Dora Maxwell award for Community Responsibility and the Defense Credit Union Council's Navy-Marine Corps credit union of the year award.
He was also renowned for his industry dedication, evidenced during Hurricane Katrina when the Pen Air CEO loaded a van owned by the county sheriff with $1.2 million and drove it to Keesler FCU in Biloxi, Miss., to assist in Keesler's recovery. Davis also lent Keesler a Pen Air mobile branch.
Davis, a graduate of Troy State University, was long active in the FCUL, the Credit Union Executives Society, NAFCU and other trade groups. He had been serving as a director of the Florida league's service group and was a CUPAC trustee.
Locally, Davis supported many nonprofit and community organizations, including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Emerald Coast Honor Flight.
Funeral services for Davis were held Oct. 29 in Geneva, Ala.
