Los Angeles Federal Credit Union, Los Angeles, celebrated International Credit Union Week by giving a free commemorative gift to anyone who visited their branch. The credit union exemplified the It Belongs to Me theme and underlined that credit unions were found for service. Los Angeles Federal Credit Union celebrated Credit Union Week at all of its branches.
WESTconsin Credit Union, Menomonie, Wis., invited its members and the community to stop by any branch office during International Credit Union Day to enjoy dessert and refreshments. All branch offices provided hot apple cider and caramel apples. Members who stopped by were also eligible to enter to win door prizes. Also, during the celebration the credit union had an ID scanning station set up to scan member's drivers licenses into the system for easy verification of their identity. Free community document shred events were also held in celebration of credit union day at the Amery, Menomonie, River Falls and Spring Valley locations. The community was invited to bring up to two boxes of documents to be shredded.
MidSouth Federal Credit Union, Macon, Ga., celebrated International Credit Union Day and the It Belongs to Me theme by honoring its members. The first 100 members that visited each MidSouth office on Oct. 16 received a special gift. Members also enjoyed popcorn, candy and a chance to win a gift basket.

First Capital Federal Credit Union, York, Pa., celebrated International CU Day with a bake-off contest. Staff members made their favorite desserts and members sampled each and voted for their favorite. The desserts ranged from chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies to caramel apple salad and chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter icing. The credit union received excellent feedback from its members, who said how much they enjoyed the food. One member liked her dessert so much she called the credit union for the recipe when she got home. The contest winner at each branch received a First Capital umbrella.
Redwood Credit Union, Santa Rosa, Calif., celebrated International Credit Union Week with free educational seminars, coloring contests, raffle prizes and giveaways. The credit union held a your path to homeownership seminar for first-time homebuyers at its administrative offices. The credit union held another seminar during the week on insurance needs. All branch locations held raffles, giveaways and festivities throughout the week.
Community Trust Credit Union, Gurnee, Ill., held events all day long at its main headquarters, Grayslake and Lake Villa branches in honor of International Credit Union Day. Community Trust provided members that stopped by with information about its savings and loan programs and gave members a free jumbo grocery tote back to avoid using paper or plastic at the grocery store.
New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union, Albuquerque, N.M., offered two no-cost work shops as part of its International Credit Union Day celebration. The workshop, money management for members ages 13-18, provided information on why members should start a savings account now, how to set personal financial goals, types of savings accounts, how to benefit from compound interest and the importance of a good credit record. The second workshop, pre-retirement planning for members 55 and older, provided information on the basics of Social Security programs and benefits, understanding Medicare and Medicaid benefits, retirement estimator and extra help with prescription drug benefits. Pizza and beverages were provided a both workshops. New Mexico Educators also recognized the microfinance program of Acci??n International. Acci??n provides microloans, business training and other financial services to poor men and women who start their own business. New Mexico Educators encouraged members to stop by a branch location and make a donation to support Acci??n.
Members First Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio, helped restock the selves of local food pantries as part of International Credit Union Month in Ohio. Dozens of credit unions across Ohio participated in the food drive and contributed thousands of pounds of food. Credit unions collected nonperishable food items such as cereal, canned tuna, infant formula, canned meat and all-in-one meals. The food benefits Ohio's working poor, seniors, veterans, single-parent families, children and others.
Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., held a shred day at its Coliseum branch as part of International Credit Union Day. The Shred-it truck was on site to help the community safely dispose of sensitive information. Radio personality Eric Worden of BOB FM broadcasted live from the site. Langley FCU also provided free hot dogs to community members that attended the event.
