Keys Federal Credit Union, Key West, Fla., gave a $100 contribution for the Police Unity Tour. The tour is an annual bicycle trek to bring public awareness of law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty and to honor their sacrifices.
Service Credit Union, Rochester, N.H., donated $1,000 to the Rochester Child Care Center. The Rochester Child Care Center serves more than 100 local families. Chief Financial Officer Scott Wensley presented the check with children from the center.
Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., named seven winners in its annual big benefit raffle to its Communications Cares Foundation and raised $55,000 for organizations and charities. The foundation sold 3,000 tickets for one $10,000 grand prize, one $5,000 prize and five $1,000 prizes. Beatrice Bohm of Kings Park, N.Y., was the $10,000 grand prize winner. Charrie Shumate and Kristin Stanolind of Midland, Texas, won the $5,000 grand prize. This year is the fifth anniversary for the foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has given more than $700,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to area organizations and families in need.
Kennedy Space Center Federal Credit Union, Merritt Island, Fla., accepted donations of cash or checks to benefit the United Way's 2008 fire response fund to assist families impacted by the fires in South Brevard County. KSC Federal Credit Union contacted Our Lady of Grace shelter in Palm Bay and asked Red Cross volunteers what families evacuated from their homes needed. Employees held a dress down day and raised money to purchase baby supplies for the families. Red Cross volunteers immediately dispersed the items to the families.

Workers' Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., made a $40,000 contribution to Fitchburg State College, which will be used to renovate the lobby at the college's Weston Auditorium. Fitchburg State, in turn, named the lobby in the credit union's honor. Workers' decided to make the contribution since the college plays an important role in the community.
Saugus Federal Credit Union, Wakefield, Mass., was a major sponsor of the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School second annual golf tournament to benefit the school's athletic programs. Saugus FCU President John Smolinsky was at the school to meet with captains of the school's varsity teams.
Apple Federal Credit Union, Fairfax, Va., partnered with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network to help provide for Winchester, Va., area residents in need. Apple collected nonperishable food item donations at its Loudoun Street branch. According to Blue Ridge, nearly 3,000 people in Winchester are living below poverty level and regularly rely on local food pantries for meals.
Oxford Federal Credit Union, Mexico, Maine, donated a $50 Series EE Savings Bond and a chance for two students to have a chance in a money booth at the Mountain Valley Middle School renaissance fair. The fair rewards students for appropriate behavior, attendance and academic excellence. Over 40 prizes were given to students with the money booth as the final drawing. The first student walked away with $32 cash for his 60 seconds in the booth, and the second student took home $49. Teacher Steven LaPointe was a special entry into the money booth and walked away with $50 to support "The Doorbells" a group raising money to benefit Jim Dorr, a school teacher.
Pacific Service Credit Union, Fresno, Calif., donated $2,000 to the Fresno Police Activities League. The funds will be used for two PAL programs: senior movie night and "baby, think it over." The movie night is a monthly program where senior citizens are given assistance with yard work, lifting heave objects and other tasks followed by movies and refreshments. "Baby, think it over" is an eight-week program that teaches youth about the emotional, physical and financial ramifications of becoming a teen parent.
Pacific Service Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., was the sponsor of the second annual red carpet gala presented by Mexican American Community Services Agency Inc. The event recognized influential members of the Latino community. MACSA provides education, health and wellness, prevention and intervention and real estate development and housing services to the Latino community. Pacific Service also previously donated 10 computers to MACSA's youth centers, which provide after-school educational and recreational activities.
