Saugus Federal Credit Union, Wakefield, Mass., held a Red Cross Blood drive at its main office in Saugus. Several staff members donated blood or helped Red Cross Collection Specialist Cindy Goddard. Saugus residents also visited the main office to donate blood.
Eaton Family Credit Union, Euclid, Ohio, held its fifth annual member appreciation day. Eaton Family raised over $200 at the event for Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, an organization the credit union has supported for the past seven years. Members who attended the event had the chance tow in a three-day and two-night trip provided by MotorCars Honda. Kids were provided multicolored pencils and pinwheels. Oldies music was provided by Cameron Zwagerman from WELW 1330 AM Radio. State Rep. Kenny Yuko and Euclid Mayor Bill Cervenik stopped by to visit with members.
South Division Credit Union, Evergreen Park, Ill., held a free shred day event. South Division sponsored the event in conjunction with the credit unions statewide and locally with the village's farmers market. Accurate Document Destruction Inc., South Division's commercial shredder, brought in a bonded truck that shredded the documents. Those who attended the event were also given information about identity theft and how to protect against it. Participants also registered to win a free heavy-duty home shredder.

Corporate America Family Credit Union, Elgin, Ill., held a project backpack school supply drive for Elgin-area children. Corporate America has been holding the drive since 2004. The project goal was the gather backpacks, notebooks, pens, crayons, pencils, erasers, calculators, binders, rulers and other supplies that would be useful in the classroom at Channing School in Elgin.
Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union, Lawrence, Mass., held its annual charity golf tournament. The tournament was able to raise over $25,000 for its two charities: The Merrimack Valley YMCA and the Emmaus Inc. in Haverhill. Last year, Merrimack raised over $45,000 with the help of employees and members. Emmaus Inc. was given a donation of $30,000 and the Merrimack Valley YMCA received a donation of $15,000, representing the highest amount raised and donated to date. Efforts to raise funds for each charity will continue throughout the year.
AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union, Mechanicsburg, Pa., held its annual health and safety fair at their Bumble Bee Hollow branch. Along with healthy snacks and door prizes, there were blood donations and spinal wellness screenings. Children's safety seat checks, an EMS Unit, finger printing, swing/ballroom dancing demonstrations, glaucoma screenings, summit search and rescue dogs, and chair massages were also part of the festivities.
HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union, Honolulu, has held various community events as part of the credit unions community connections program. HawaiiUSA employees fundraising efforts provided a donation of $15,984 for Shriners Hospital Hawaii to build a new hospital to serve children. Employees and their families also volunteered at the Special Olympics Hawaii. The volunteers were in charge of coordinating the staging area for the track events. In addition to volunteer, employees and members raised $17,780 through a Special Olympics miles of quarters program. Also, employees and family members assisted in painting Kamilokik Elementary School. Employees scraped off the old paint and applied a new coat and color to the building. HawaiiUSA also donated painting supplies and provided lunch and drinks for the volunteers.
Service 1 Federal Credit Union, Muskegon, Mich., announced that its employees participated in the annual Muskegon walk for diabetes. The credit union raised a personal record of over $4,400 within a month, and half of the funds will go to residents in Muskegon with diabetic-related illnesses. The personal donation goal was surpassed by $2,400. An estimated 300 people walked six miles on Lakeshore Trail, which included 40 employees and members of Service 1. This is the fifth year for the walk. Of the individuals and businesses that raised money for the walk, Service 1 was awarded first place for the third year in a row.
