EDMONDS, Wash. -- The Fabric of Life Foundation, the development effort founded by credit union activist Carol Schillios, is launching a retail outlet which will sell products produced by cooperative artisans around the world.

Schillios, a 2007 Herb Wegner award winner, started the foundation in 2002. Its projects include a school and training center in Mali, West Africa, as well as start up credit unions in Senegal and Vietnam and support for a credit union activist in Zimbabwe.

Schillios said the shop will both offer products that artisans associated with the foundation make in Mali as well as products made by other cooperative artisans from around the world. As a retail outlet in the U.S., the store will also serve as an educational tool about the work of the foundation and the cooperative approach to development, she explained.
