FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — The Texas Credit Union Foundation online appeal for donations to help credit union victims of Hurricane Ike posted large gains Friday, topping $100,000.

The latest donations, underscoring a stepped up industry campaign described as urgent in light of the Texas Coast disaster, are being directed at the neediest CU employees who have already started receiving checks.

"Our foundation received 50 more grant applications on our desks this morning, and so far we've given out 140 individual grants, totaling $66,047," said a foundation spokeswoman, noting the funds are going out "as quickly as these dollars are coming in."
