FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Citing the urgency of helping victims of Hurricane Ike, the Texas Credit Union League and its foundation issued new industry appeals Wednesday for help on disaster relief.
"The Texas Credit Union League has learned that dozens of credit union employees' homes are destroyed," said a statement issued by Texas Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Jill Pharr.
"They've lost everything," said Pharr. "Hundreds are facing significant out-of-pocket expenses to repair the damage and still others haven't even been able to return to their homes to assess damage and instead they are relying on the kindness of friends, family members or shelters for the basic necessities," Pharr said.

The foundation, joining up with the National Credit Union Foundation, has pointed to various online sites for CU managers, employees. trade groups and vendors both in and out of Texas to make donations quickly. The NCUF site is www.CUAid.coop.
"Countless employees have had to deplete their checking and savings accounts just to get themselves and their families out of harm's way, with expenses piling up," added Pharr.
The foundation, she noted, has already begun issuing checks from its disaster relief fund.
