FREEPORT, Texas — With Hurricane Ike bearing down on the Texas coast, the $1.3 billion Texas Dow Employees Credit Union said Thursday it has begun using its blogging capability to alert members and employees of the storm track, traffic conditions and public safety announcements.
"We started yesterday and our blog, which we use routinely for product and campaign discussion, is now proving helpful to our members to get up to date information on hurricane conditions," said Trey Reeme, director of channel integration for the TDECU. "The blog got 1,000 hits yesterday and that is tenfold what it normally receives."
The blog, http://tdecu.wordpress.com/category/hurricane-ike/, is proving especially useful, he said, to the large number of members and employees of the big Dow Chemical plant in Freeport "since we've already posted notices on road closings today as well as informing our members about wait times at some of our busiest branches."
