ODESSA, Texas — The buzz among contributors to the Texas Credit Union League's PAC Committee this month is the hair loss of its chairman, James Minge, senior vice president of business services at Randolph-Brooks FCU in San Antonio.
"My wife didn't think I was so clever, but it's all for a good cause–PAC money," declared a shaven Minge who challenged the 25 members of the PAC Committee at a meeting to each make $250 pledges, something unprecedented, if he sheared his mane down to what he said was "peach fuzz."
Members of the committee meeting here Aug. 27 each took turns with an electric razor to cut what Minge described as "a full head of hair on a slightly overweight guy with a fun personality."
So far $8,000 has been raised for Texas PAC including contributions from Randolph-Brooks employees who participated in the fun by naming celebrity look-alikes for Minge on an internal internet Web site. The winner so far: "Dr. Evil" from an Austin Powers flick followed by "Mr. Clean," "Kojak" and Lex Luther, the Superman villain.
"Look, I thought cutting my hair was a lot safer than following the lead of Dick Ensweiler by skydiving," joked Minge referring to the president/CEO of the Texas League who once jumped out of an airplane to promote PAC fund-raising.
