ARLINGTON, Va. — Cyveillance Inc. said it discovered new phishing attacks so far this year that account for more than two new institutions a day targeted by fraudsters.

The cyber intelligence firm said its monitors found that 367 unique brands were first-time targets of phishing attacks through June, an increase of 80% over the first six months of 2007.

The targeted institutions were in 30 different countries in the first six months of this year, with numerous new targets in the Middle East and Latin America.

The company said it has identified more than 2,000 unique brands attacked by phishers since 2005.

The company (www.cyveillance.com) said its client list now includes most of the Fortune 50, regional financial institutions nationwide and more than 30 million global consumers through partnerships that include AOL and Microsoft.
