MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Two credit union staff will attend this year's Olympics in Beijing as a reward for signing up members for their CU's agent-issued credit cards.

Elan Financial Services and Visa Inc. sponsored the promotion and identified Kendra Richards of Desert Schools Federal Credit Union in Phoenix, Ariz., and Lisa Short from USA Credit Union in Troy, Mich. Both credit unions are in agent card issuing relationships with Elan.

To be eligible, both had to sign up five members for one of the CUs credit cards that Elan issues. Winners were drawn at random from a pool of eligible employees.

The prize includes airfare to Beijing and accommodations along with tickets to Olympic events and a $500 Visa gift card, Elan said.

"Finding out that I won a trip to the Olympics in China was unbelievable. I can't wait to experience all that China has to offer and couldn't have done it without the great partnership with Visa. Thanks for the amazing opportunity," Richards said.

"I've never won anything like this before, and I'm extremely excited about the trip," Short said.

"We're pleased to be able to participate in the Visa promotions. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved; our members, our credit union and our employees," said Thomas Alter, USA Credit Union executive vice president. "It's a great opportunity to re-educate employees on our credit card product offering so they can assist our members more efficiently. These programs also offer our employees an opportunity to win a trip of a lifetime that they may otherwise never experience."

"Visa has been a proud sponsor of the Olympic Games for more than two decades, and this promotion brings our partnership to life for our cardholders," said Antonio Lucio, chief marketing officer of Visa Inc. "A cornerstone of our Olympic sponsorship is the opportunity we give to our cardholders–passionate Olympic fans–to experience a dream come true and attend the games in person."

NuUnion Turns Lemons to Lemonade

LANSING, Mich. — NuUnion Credit Union is sweetening up the summer for its drive-thru members by updating the traditional lemonade stand.

The credit union recently served up lemonade to members using the drive-thru at its headquarters. "People have a lot going on in their financial lives, a lot of uncertainty," said NuUnion CU Regional Vice President Sue Hicks. "So, we're giving people a time-out from their everyday with an unexpected little thank you."

Hicks said the quizzical looks from members were all just part of the fun, and the lemonade offering gave staffers another opportunity to connect with members.
