GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Team Little Guy racing troupe found a new patron this week in Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.).
The congresswoman, who supports the work of a contingent of North and South Carolina credit union leaders involved in charity fundraising and races tied to CUNA's cartoon character, said she will be offering an exclusive tour of the Capitol dome for seven lucky people.
Getting the hour-long tour "led by a professional guide" is considered rare, which is why the lawmaker has suggested the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation auction it off to the highest CU bidders as part of the micro community grant program. That program, now in its third year, raises funds for needy groups in North and South Carolina. Micro community raised $500,000 last year, making it one of the largest such efforts among state leagues foundations.
As for the tour, Foxx called it "once in a lifetime opportunity" and would include tour of the Capitol Building, with Foxx doing everything she can to throw in a White House Tour as well.
The minimum bid for the tour is $7,500, but winners will be responsible for travel arrangements and accommodations in D.C. The tour auction precedes the start of the Blue Ridge relay race Sept. 5-6, which starts in Asheville and will include the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation's 12-man team of runners.
