HOUSTON — With this year's conference theme of "blazing new trails, building dreams Texas-style," the African American Credit Union Coalition has kicked off its annual gathering here.

The opening session will take place later today at the Hyatt Regency with AACUC Chairwoman Barbara Stephens welcoming attendees to the Lone Star state. Stephens is also president/CEO of Houston Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union.

Other speakers on the agenda include Alonzo Swann, director of NCUA region III who will speak on eliminating CAMEL ratings. Debra Chandler, national credit union relationship manager for the IRS, will share a presentation on how to grow a credit union with little or no cost.

Richard Turnley, president/CEO of Southern Teachers & Parents FCU, will be honored for his contributions to the movement with the AACUC Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on Friday.
