ST. LOUIS — Design and build firm Clayco Inc. has been recognized as a great place to work.
The firm won The St. Louis Business Journal best places to work award for the third year in a row and entered the best place to work hall of fame.
Clayco's new president, Russ Burns, calls Clayco "one of the most positive environments I've ever worked in."

"The most significant thing about Clayco is the idea that one's life doesn't have to compete with one's job," Burns said. "Chairman and CEO Bob Clark lives that out himself. He's very involved in community and political issues. At Clayco, your interests dovetail with your work."
Teri Brown, Clayco's human resources administrator and payroll director, added that Clayco urges employees to be active in the community, allowing them time off to attend volunteer meetings and events. They also are encouraged to approach the company about matching contributions to charitable organizations.
According to Brown, each staff member is treated like a whole person, not a timecard puncher, Brown said. She cited Clayco's state-of-the-art fitness center, on-site personal trainer, exercise classes, blood drives, health screenings and regular lunch and learn educational sessions as ways the company enriches its employees' lives.
In order to qualify for the hall of fame, a company must have previously won first place in the contest and must have finished among the top three in its size category this year. Clayco has won the best places to work award since the newspaper started giving the award.
Companies are judged based on employee survey results. Over 200 companies in the St. Louis region submitted surveys.
