SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s start of a four-day work week next month for 16,000 government employees to save on energy and driving expense shows no signs of catching on so far with credit unions or banks.

There has, however, been widespread discussion of the governor's sweeping program among financial institutions and among businesses but so far there have been no copycats.

"We're a service oriented business which means we have to be there five days a week to take care of our members," said a spokesman for the $443 million Deseret First FCU, whose primary sponsor includes the Mormon Church.

The Utah League of Credit Unions said it has seen no mention of any CU plans but it would be gauging "the effect it would have" in future weeks.

A spokeswoman for the Utah Bankers Association said no banks have made such plans but the topic did come up for CEO discussion during the organization's annual convention in Sun Valley, Ida.
