SAN ANTONIO — For her work in building the business department at $4.6 billion Security Service Federal Credit Union, Yvonne Fernandez, assistant vice president of commercial services, recently received the financial services champion of the year award from the South-West Texas Border Small Business Development Center Network.

A 20-year staffer at SSFCU, Fernandez helped to grow the department from one to five employees and created a business lending division that included becoming Small a Business Administration preferred lender.

Fernandez received the award during a small business week awards luncheon held by the SBA San Antonio District Office.

In related news, the credit union has moved its commercial services department off site to a 2,800-square foot office in North San Antonio. Eight employees will serve members there. According to SSFCU, the larger space aims to provide more access for members applying for commercial loans and to accommodate the newly expanded team of officers.
