WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Hoping to reach out to military personnel who stand to be impacted by the realignment of Quantico Marine Corps Base and Fort Belvoir here, Belvoir Federal Credit Union has joined a local alliance that aims to support new businesses set to arrive to the area.

The Quantico/Belvoir Regional Business Alliance, a 16-member nonprofit organization, sprang from the impact of the Base Realignment and Closure 2005, which has targeted several hundred installations nationwide for closure or restructure.

Fort Belvoir stands to gain a new hospital, seven million square feet of new office space and an additional 19,300 personnel by Sept. 15, 2011, according to the alliance (http://www.qbrbusinessalliance.com). Quantico will gain an additional 2,600 personnel and 712,000 square feet of office space.

The $244 million Belvoir FCU, along with the 15 other alliance members, have contributed $1,500 each to the organization. An outgrowth of a nine-month community dialogue project begun by Northern Virginia Community College's Woodbridge Campus, the alliance has brought together community and business leaders in a series of focus groups that initially explored BRAC's impact on Prince William County. It now includes participants from Stafford and Fairfax counties.
