CU Aid Raises Funds for Last Year's San Diego Fire Victims
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — CU Aid, a disaster relief fund operated by the National Credit Union Foundation and the California Credit Union League, raised $123,300 to victims of last year's wildfires that burned throughout the country, and has distributed most of the funds. The money was raised from credit union staff, volunteers and members nationwide, and assists the same groups, in that order of importance.
The grants–ranging from $500 to $10,000–involved eight credit unions. Most of the recipients had lost their homes, and said they are planning to use the money to rebuild.

Some money raised was recently reallocated, with contributors' blessings, to help those impacted by the February's tornadoes in Alabama. The NCUF made 17 additional grants totaling more than $87,000 in relief for Alabama.
"Disasters can strike credit union people anywhere, anytime–so we need to be in a constant state of readiness," said NCUF Executive Director Steve Delfin.
